This is the launch of the AKD website at Southern Utah University. We will be under construction over the next couple of months, but it will eventually become the hub of social justice and critical thought for the SUU communinty. Please contact us with any suggestions you may have concerning content or suggestions for events.
A Message from the President
I'm excited for the upcoming opportunities that we have to reinvent the AKD here at SUU. In the past, participation has been low and the group has engaged in very few activities. For this reason I propose that we create a "Sociology Club" that would be a branch of AKD that is open to everyone, regardless of major status or GPA. The mission statement of the international society is "to investigate humanity for the purpose of service". In this vein I propose incorporating the following activities into our society (although perhaps not all in the same semester):
- Service Projects (apart and in collaboration with other SUU groups)
- Workshops (for professional advancement such as graduate school selection and application)
- Awareness seminars and on campus activities (to engage the SUU community and recruit new members)
- Field Trips (places of interest in our fields)
- Collaborative research development (so that our students can begin submitting papers to conferences)
- Fun activities dealing with social justice
